Just a Note...

Posted by Picasa

The Christmas Crafting is winding down fast! My final project in these last few days is sets of handmade notecards accented with the appropriate initial. These are multi-purpose and I think nearly anyone could put them to use! They are fun to make because I use so many different combinations of the Designer Series Papers. That's "Bella Rose" in the foreground, 'Haiku" in the upper right, and "Sweet Always" on the left. This is just a sampling -- my work table is filled with different combinations!

Christmas Countdown: Week 2

Posted by Picasa

So this is how I spiffed up my Christmas Countdown Binder this year. Grabbed some very old holiday patterned paper from my stash and a favorite Christmas photo from last year. Last week I cleaned up the inside (threw out all of last year's receipts!)and printed my new calendar pages and checklists. I also made a few trips to the store and have dutifuly noted the purchases and the recipients in the Gift List section. Check out this week's "assignments" at www.organizedchristmas.com .

I am really going to miss this Ghostly Greetings Paper when the final trick-or-treaters have come and gone. (I made sure to save one sheet with the words for a scrapbook page or two!) This card features that paper with Pumpkin Pie, Going Gray, and Kiwi Kiss Striped ribbon. And I used the scalloped edge punch.. AGAIN!!!

Spread Some Halloween Happiness...

Posted by Picasa

This is my version of the little treat basket/purse that is making the rounds on the Internet. This one isn't the tiny favor box size. I made this larger (think a large order of French Fries) because I want it to hold a handful of Halloween candy. I love the Ghostly Designer Series Paper and that's the new Kiwi Kiss Striped Grosgrain around the top. I'm thinking I'll make five more and let them be my Halloween Teacher Treat this year!

(There is a video tutorial out there for this project created by a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator named Michelle.)

Are You Still In???

My pictures are not nearly as good as Ali's -- my lists are way more abbreviated -- and my husband and children are running from me -- but I'm still in! My "Week in the Life" is going to be an interesting little project when I put it together next week. I never would have captured so much of the mundane, so much of the routine.

If a week is too much, follow Stacy Julian's approach and give yourself a present!

Happy Creating --

Here is a card that features the new In Color, Baja Breeze. I paired it with some Certainly Celery and some Barely Banana. The stamp set is new as well. It's called "Heard from the Heart" . It is one of the featured sets in the "Never Before Seen, Never before Savings" events. Read about the discounts on brand new stamps HERE. And see the scalloped edge at the bottom. That is the brand new punch you HAVE to have!

My Spring Fling that is -- with the Spring Fling Designer Series paper. It's retiring and I will miss its soft subtles tones. (It's 25% off and still available, so grab a few packs while you can!).

The stamp set is my oft-used, always loved Pretty Princess. It retired a few years back, but stop me if I have mentioned before how you will have to pry it from hands...

As another quick aside, this template is one of my "go-to" sketches when working with patterned paper. The proportions always seem right when you select a wonderful Stampin' Up! set of coordinated paper!

Stamp Set: Pretty Princess (retired)
Paper: Pretty in Pink, Barely Banana, Whisper White, Spring Fling DSP
Ink: Black Staz-on, Pretty in Pink, Barely Banana, Certainly Celery

A Library of Memories

Since you have to have a "little" project while waiting for the new Stampin' Up! catalog year to begin I decide to organize all the pictures I have ever taken. Really.

If you know Joe, then you know that my photos are all in containers and behind closed doors. The only problem is he just likes things put away -- he is not interested in grouping like items together. (I'm funny that way. The coffee supplies are in the cabinet directly above the coffeemaker. The ziploc sandwich and snack size bags are just below where I pack lunches. That kind of thing.) So imagine my horror when I discovered multiple containers of photos stashed around the garage. They were in cabinets and things -- but spread out everywhere. And I never would have made the connection that a box he marked "garage pics" was in fact a box of boxes of pictures he was storing in the garage. I have walked past it for 2 years thinking it was pictures OF the garage without processing it fully.

But I digress.

Since I am a Stacy Julian devotee -- think Big Picture Scrapbooking -- think Simple Scrapbooking -- I knew that her latest work Photo Freedom was just what I needed to corral my out of hand photographs and make them into a system. So that when I am inspired by great supplies or pictures in the new catalog to create a memory item or a scrapbook page I will know where to find the photos. And they won't be subjected to the humidity of the garage.

So I took Joe by the hand and together we scored all the known photos in our home. Just as Stacy says I piled them all in one place. (The dining room. He nearly died. I like the table space.) Then I began the process of sorting and more importantly friends, PURGING. (Why oh why did I ever order all those doubles? And who needed 14,000 pictures of my three cats??? Why keep photos of boyfriends from way back???) I tackled the 1990's first. When I was done the boxes had melted down into a few piles and multiple trash bags were full. I tied them and ran them outside quickly so as not to be tempted to go back through them. I have one album of photos ready to be scrapbooked. And I am making dividers for my 4 storage drawers to keep pictures I might work with again. I am already feeling so much better!

I am tackling 2000 next which is a different animal because that includes digital. I take too many pictures -- I don't edit enough -- don't print enough -- and save too many. Heck, I've got one hard drive stashed in a closet with 11,000 pictures on it! Wish me luck.

School Days Thank Yous...

Really -- it is coming to an end. Preschool finished today and we track out of elementary school next week. But I still needed another half-dozen Thank You cards for group teacher gifts and notes of appreciation for Room Mothers.

Andrea Walford came to the rescue with her makeover card on her blog this week. I copied the design, I just changed it to include the (retired) Darling Doodles Designer Series paper that I just love for anything school-related.

This is an example of a sketch that is a keeper! It is adaptable to so many situations and is a great way to use scraps of fabulous paper. It also comes together very quickly assembly line style!

Stamp Set: Enjoy Every Moment
Paper: Whisper White, Darling Doodles
Ink: Wild Wasabi
Accessories: Purely Pomegranate, Blue Bayou and Wild Wasabi Stitched Ribbon, Silver Brads

Life's a Breeze

The end of the school year crafting is sure to end soon! This is a set of cards from one of our preschool classes to the two teachers. We're going tropical with the good-byes because one of these wonderful ladies is quitting teaching to head to the Islands and pursue her dream -- she bought a restaurant/bar!

I love, love, love this "Life's a Breeze" set. Now that summer is unofficially here -- expect to see it a lot!

The Tart and Tangy Collection

This is the other set of cards I made for the fundraiser at the Quota Conference. Since I also stamped all the attendee nametags and made the 8 packs in the post below, I went very simple for these sets. Simple because I completely CASEd the work of Stampin' Up! Demonstrator Andrea Walford. I love her style and inspiration (stop me if I've mentioned this before!). Anyway, love the summery set "Tart and Tangy" and the wonderful "Summer Picnic" Designer Paper!

Glorious Greetings

If this is Spring then I must be crafting like crazy! This weekend the service club I belong to, Quota International of Raleigh (www.quota.org), hosted our district-wide conference. As a small fundraiser, I sold packages of hand stamped greeting cards to attendees. We sold out -- and I didn't have to bring a single card home!

For the one assortment I used the Glorious Greetings set along with some retired Petals and Paisleys Designer Paper (have to USE that stuff and not hoard it!). Glorious Greetings is a real work horse set. You can hardly think of an occasion that isn't on one of the stamps in that set!

Teacher Treats

I've been busy stamping Teacher Treat Boxes for our upcoming Teacher Appreciation Week at Preschool. One day they all attend a luncheon and each place setting will have one of these boxes stuffed with gift certificates from generous merchants.

I used the retired Serene Sunflower to match the luncheon invitations (a very subtle background). I did half in Apricot Appeal and half in Barely Banana because the turnaround time was short and I had to use paper already in my stash and I needed to make 26 of them. I partially inked a stamp from the SAB set "Lots of Thoughts" because it was so appropriate!

The directions for making "2-5-7-10" Boxes can be found HERE.

Stamp Sets: Lots of Thoughts, Serene Sunflower
Paper: Apricot Appeal, Barely Banana, Very Vanilla, Chocolate Chip
Ink: Apricot Appeal, Barely Banana, Chocolate chip
Accessories: Theater Originals ribbon, Scallop Pnch

Enjoy Stamp Club in April!

I am featuring the "Enjoy Every Moment" Stamp Set at April's Stamp Club Meeting.
I love the set because it is LOADED with layering possibilities. All of the circles and images work with each other. The flower match the ones in the Felt Fusion set as well as the ones in the Bali Breeze Designer paper -- not to mention the punch in the "Three for You" box. "Enjoy Every Moment" is also part of the Free Wheelin' Promotion so you buy it now for $29.95 and you get the matching Daisy Dash Jumbo wheel (an $8.50 value) for free! I used it as the background on the card here.

We will also be making a double-page 12 x 12 scrapbook layout with the Bali Breeze Designer paper and the Felt Fusion flowers.

I love the sentiments in this set for card making and scrapbooking. Just think how versatile an "enjoy" card is. Enjoy this gift, enjoy your birthday, enjoy your new baby, enjoy your new life together, enjoy your retirement, enjoy your well-deserved vacation -- it goes on and on and on.

And for scrapbooking you can use enjoy "the little things" or enjoy "every moment" or enjoy "life". It also has a journalling circle with lines.

And it's got a 'thank you" as well. Plus a free wheel until April 30th. Enjoy!

We sent a half dozen of these little treat pouches to school this week to wish our teachers "Happy Easter". Wild About These, Too!

So here are the party goodie bags. Colored lunchbags at Target (where else???) that match Stampin' Up's Brilliant Blue exactly!

A few wriggly jungle animals and some candy and it was all done!

Wild About This Invitation!

There's so much to tell you about this one! First, it uses the Sale-a-bration set "Lots of Thoughts" on the front. The cardstock is that fabulous Wild Wasabi Textured paper that's part of a special deal right now. Seems there was quite an OOOOPS cutting holiday paper and we are benefitting. I made the pieces into pocket cards.

This invitation is the first time I have used the Jersey Shore Designer Paper and it is so happy and bright. I used the Hugs and Wishes set for the party details on the insert. And I am now the proud owner of the Wild About You. When one of my girly-girls picked an inflatable place with a jungle theme I had an a-ha moment and ordered right away!

Stamp Sets: Wild About You, Lots of Thoughts, Hugs & Wishes
Paper: Wild Wasabi Textured, Brilliant Blue, Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White
Ink: Brilliant Blue, Wild Wasabi, Pumpkin Pie, Bashful Blue
Accessories: Scallop Punch, 1 3/8" circle, Striped Pumpkin Grosgrain

Free Rub-Ons!

I really love the set of rub-ons that is one of the *free* choices during Sale-a-bration. You get 4 sheets. the images are identical -- but you get one page of white, one page of black, one page of olive, and one page of chocolate brown. That is a lot of rub-ons!

The quality is first-rate -- they adhere nicely to all kinds of surfaces and don't peel at the edges.

I used the Chocolate here to make a quick and easy 6 x 6 scrapbook page (stop me if you've heard me go on and on at one of my workshops about the freedom of small pages and favorite photos!).

Cardstock: Pretty in Pink, Chocolate Chip
Rub-ons: Love and Happiness
Accessories: Ribbon Theater Originals

Something to Brag About....

Sometimes it seems like I just don't post enough of my scrapbook work. It may be in part because I am such a lousy photographer and scans of my pages look even worse than the pictures..... Anyway, here's another one of those 6 x 6 "Brag Book" pages I love so much. This page can be completed in (really!) minutes. Since the picture isn't so good it is hard to see the flower background stamped with "Taken with Teal" as well as the little flowers on the title box stamped off in Apricot Appeal.

This page premiered at a workshop today (thanks, Sally!) and will be making other apparances in this post-Valentine's Day "season".

Stamp Set: Time Well Spent
Paper: Taken with Teal, Confetti White, Apricot Appeal
Ink: Classic Black, Apricot Appeal, Certainly Celery, Taken with Teal
Accessories: Wide Celery Grosgrain, Silver Brads

More Classroom Treats!

These Valentines have nothing to do with candy at all. We are giving the gift of creativity to the 3 year olds! The boxes of crayons are wrapped in belly bands I rolled through the paper crimper for a little texture. Then I stamped tags with my ultra favorite "Crayon Kids" set. It's been retired for a few years and I think I continue to use it more than ever before! Remember, always buy 'em while you can still get 'em!

Stamp Sets: Crayon Kids, Cold Play (the "to and "from")
Paper: Glorious Green, Whisper White
Ink: Glorious Green
Accessories: Paper Crimper

That includes this batch of lollipops with covers that are headed to Kindergarten Valentine Mailboxes.
